Combating the flu: natural home remedies

Combating the flu: natural home remedies

Morning friends! It feels like I haven’t published a post in forever. Truth is, we’ve all come down with a flu virus that has literally knocked us off our feet. Mum was first and she eventually needed a sick visit to get antibiotics while Mer and I are on the mend after nearly 2 weeks of battling a stuffy nose, cough and burning sore throat. Thankfully Margs has managed to somehow avoid catching this bug, dealing instead with pesky hand foot and mouth which left her covered in an awful rash, running a fever and feeling generally unwell. We’ve been an absolute mess and until today, I really haven’t had the energy to do anything let alone write blog posts.

In our desperation we started looking to home remedies to help us manage the symptoms. Coughing was probably the worst part of all of this and after some research on pinterest we tried out a few things we found that helped some and will probably become staples in our house when we’re dealing with a similar virus in the future.

We’re hoping to finally get over this thing by the weekend and be back to our normal routine by next week. It’s been a rough go for the last couple of weeks. We’ve been subsisting on hot chamomile tea, home made cough syrup, warm soaks and binge watching the Midwife.

I hope you are all well and enjoying the warming weather! See you all next Monday when I hope to return to my usual scheduling!

What home remedies do you turn to when you’re down with the flu?

Sorry you’re suffering! Here in the UK, we shared the most horrible cold and cough around Christmas time, which continued to be shared well into February. To answer your question, we don’t tend to use many home remedies, although I do like honey and lemon in hot water. My mother-in-law swears by a drop of whiskey, but I can’t tell you if that’s for medicinal purposes 😉

I found you on inspirethemom.com! Hope you starting to feel better (this would be day 6 according to your publish date). Sickness = bleh. Did you use a stock photo for the mug or is this yours? I love trees + the camping mugs so this one I would so buy. Thanks for sharing the natural products too. I love your blog!

Thank you for sharing home remedies. Because there is no chance of side affects in winters these are really needed and ingredients are easily available too.
