One of the disadvantages of living a frugal lifestyle is falling into food ruts. Frugal living in our house comes with a  sense of living on autopilot and once we figured out a general meal plan that appeals to us and stays on budget we stick to it week after week. Although our meals are generally healthy and balanced they do tend to be redundant because we’ve automated the process of grocery shopping to stay on budget and feed our family 3 meals per day for at most 100$ per week. So, when Harmonic Soft the creators of the Recipe Calendar – Meal Planner reached out about working with their product I jumped on the opportunity because this awesome app allows you to peruse new recipes, add your own and generate a super handy grocery list that frugal minded people like me will agree is vital to saving money at the grocery store.

The app allows you to choose a predefined weekly menu or upload your own favorite recipes which makes planning out a weeks worth of meals an absolute breeze. Recipe Calendar- Meal Planner also caters to different diets including  low-carb, vegetarian, low-calorie and even paleo! As an added bonus, if you’re currently trying to live a healthier lifestyle or shed a couple of extra pounds the app even offers a weight-loss diet plan based on actual calorie counts from a calorie counting app! Not only are there a ton of awesome recipes available (FYI the gingery grilled chicken is awesome!) but the app generates a shopping list for you to take to the grocery store with you. It really can’t get easier than that can it? Recipe Calendar – Meal planner not only makes planning super easy but it helps stay on budget by eliminating those extra purchases that drive up the cost of grocery hauls.

I gave the app a shot this week by first perusing our local weekly flyers for bargains. Once I narrowed down which items were on sale I hit up the app to make a meal plan for the upcoming week based on what I knew I’d be buying at the store . The app then gave me a shopping list which made hitting up the grocer a breeze- I was in and out in less than 30 minutes and came in 2.17$ under budget. I hate to admit it but I used to go at this sort of thing old school with pen and paper in hand but, after using Recipe Calendar – Meal Planner I doubt I’ll ever go back – the future is all about electronic meal planning!

Unfortunately, for the time being the app is only available on android devices but I’ve been told that an iOS version is in the works. So, if you’ve got an android device I highly recommend that you download the Recipe Calendar – Meal Planner. It’ll make planning meals as easy as pie and save you a ton of money on your groceries!

This could be handy – I never know what to buy, this might actually help me get some good meals on the table without staring blankly into the fridge/freezer for some inspiration.

It’s a shame it’s not out on iOS yet. Do you know of any similar app for IPhones? And do you think this will be equally effective for someone living alone but also trying to shop on a budget?

I know! I’ve been told it’s in the works! Unfortunately I don’t know of any iOS alternatives.

This is an awesome app! I’ve been playing with it for an hour now. This will definitely make my week a lot less stressful. Unfortunately I don’t have a twitter so I can’t enter that way. 🙁
