How To Organize Yourself To Cash In On Your Clutter

#1 Group Things To Sell  By Category

The easiest way to start to cash in on your clutter is to plan to sell things by category. So, if you know that you want to sell off toys and games that your kids don’t play with anymore then focus on that category first.

Round up all your unused toys and games and list them all at the same time. To encourage selling even more stuff you can offer buyers a deal if they buy 2 or more of your items.

Check out the 12 categories of stuff that we know sell well on the used market. Each of the categories listed below sell well on the second hand market and will help you cash in on your clutter!

# Start With The Messiest Room In Your Home

If you’re unsure which category to start with first, then you can pick based on which room in your home is the messiest. If the toy room is out of control then that might be a good place to start. If, your closet is overflowing and really messy then you might want to start there!

#3 Decide Where You’re Going To List Your Stuff

There are many options for selling your stuff online. If you want to cash in on your clutter quickly a good place to start would be eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Beyond this you can look to sites like Poshmark or Threadup to sell your stuff.

Admittedly, selling clothes is probably one of the more difficult and time consuming ways to cash in on your clutter.

If you’ve got the patience to photograph each item and deal with selling off one article at a time, great!

If that seems tedious and time consuming to you, why not sell your extra clothes as a lot?

OR, if you want to get really creative put together outfits at a fixed price!

What worked best for us was lumping similar sized items into lots and selling them at a fixed price per bag.

Think something like 20 shirts for 20$ or 10 pairs of pants for 20$.

And, if you’ve got name brand clothing and accessories than you can sell them on auction sites like eBay or Poshmark.

The market for used DVDs, Video games and CDs is HUGE.

Maybe it’s regional but we’ve always had great luck selling off items in this category.

As a rule of thumb we sold CDs and DVDs in lots at 1$ each.

Video games are a little different and we usually sold them for 30% of their market value.

Just hop online and see what your game is worth brand new and price it around the 30% mark.
