How to Make a Photo Butterfly Craft

Follow these simple steps to create a fun and colorful butterfly featuring your child as the star!

Step 1: Print the Butterfly Wings
Start by printing our butterfly wing template on a sheet of white cardstock.

Step 2: Decorate the Wings
Let your child decorate the butterfly wings using whatever art materials you have on hand—crayons, markers, colored pencils, watercolors, or even paint. Encourage bold, colorful designs! Kids can create stripes, dots, mosaic-style patterns, or symmetrical designs for a truly personalized look.

Step 3: Cut Out a Photo of Your Child
Choose a printed photo of your child (full body works best), and carefully cut around their figure. This will become the body of the butterfly.

Step 4: Glue the Photo to the Wings
Glue your child’s cut-out photo to the center of the decorated butterfly wings. Position it so that the head is at the top and the body aligns vertically with the center of the wings.

Step 5: Add Antennae
Cut two small strips of scrap cardstock to create simple rectangular antennae. Glue them to the back of the child’s head on the photo so they peek out from the top.

And that’s it! You’ve created a fun, colorful butterfly that features your child front and center. Hang it on the wall, add it to a bulletin board, or gift it to someone special!
