I was aiming for a project that felt festive but also supported important early learning skills like name recognition and fine motor development.
That’s how this sombrero name craft was born! Kids get to design their own vibrant sombrero and then practice writing their name, making it both creative and educational.
Supplies
- Sombrero Template – Grab your free printable PDF template at the bottom of this post.
- Cardstock – We recommend using Neenah white cardstock for a sturdy, kid-friendly base.
- Coloring Supplies – Markers, crayons, or colored pencils all work great for adding vibrant flair.
- Scissors – To cut out the sombrero shape and decorative pieces.
- Glue – For assembling all the parts of your sombrero craft.
- Black Marker – Perfect for writing your child’s name on each colorful tassel.
Instructions
Step 1: Print the free sombrero template on white cardstock for a sturdy base.
Step 2: Grab your crayons, markers, or colored pencils and decorate the sombrero using bright, festive colors.
Step 3: Color in the tassels—pick fun, vibrant shades! You’ll need one tassel for each letter in the child’s name.
Step 4: Carefully cut out the sombrero and each tassel using scissors.
Step 5: Glue the tassels along the bottom edge of the sombrero to create a festive fringe.
Step 6: Finish it off by writing one letter of the child’s name on each tassel using a black marker or Sharpie.
