Nothing says fall like a scarecrow! So, I’m excited to share this paper bag scarecrow craft with you today. This scarecrow paper bag craft is a great screen free activity for your fall bucket list.
Simple to make and very cute, this paper bag scarecrow craft is a great way to sneak in some fine motor skills practice like hand-eye coordination for kids of all ages.

Supplies
- Scarecrow template – get the download link down below
- Brown paper lunch bag – we used standard size lunch bags to make our paper bag puppet scarecrows
- Construction paper – black, brown, orange, yellow, pink, white
- Scissors – we love these blunt tip safety scissors for kids.
- Black marker – for tracing the mouth on your scarecrow paper bag puppet
- Double sided tape, glue stick, hot glue – either works well for attaching the scarecrow pieces to the bag. If you’re going the hot glue route it’s important to keep a close eye so the child doesn’t get burned.
- Googly eyes (optional)
- Large popsicle stick (optional) for transforming your paper bag scare crow into a puppet.
Make Your Own Paper Bag Scarecrow Craft
Adult supervision is highly recommended when creating any of the fun crafts we feature on our blog.
Cut the scarecrow puppet hat template and ribbon. Trace the hat and ribbon onto a brown and orange paper and cut each part out.
Glue or tape the hat ribbon to the hat.
Cut four wide strips of yellow construction paper to create the scarecrow’s straw hair. You can also cut your yellow construction paper strips in various lengths if you want your scarecrow hand puppet to have uneven hair. Glue or tape it to each side of the hat and then glue the brim of the hat to the to the top of the bag.
Cut a small orange triangle from the orange construction paper. Glue or tape the triangle upside down to create the paper bag scarecrow’s nose. Make sure to glue the hose above the top of the smile you’re going to draw in the next step.
Using a black marker create a smile for your scarecrow.
Make the scare crow’s eyes by cutting two small circles from the white and black construction paper. Make sure the black circles are smaller than the white then glue a white circle to each black circle to create the eyes. If you want wiggly eyes instead you can use self-adhesive googly eyes instead. Glue the eyes to the top of the head using a little bit of glue.
Cut two small pink circles from the pink construction paper to create a set of rosy cheeks for your paper bag scarecrow craft.
Attach a large popsicle stick or stir stick to the bottom of the bag to create a paper bag scarecrow puppet.
