How To Make A Fingerprint Seahorse Craft

Step 1: Print The Template
Download and print the fingerprint seahorse template on regular 8.5 x 11 paper or cardstock.
Cardstock works best if you plan to use paint because it helps prevent the paper from wrinkling. Our go-to for this type of craft is Neenah White.
Step 2: Color The Seahorse
Use crayons or markers to color the fins, outline details, and the word “SUMMER.”
Encourage kids to use bright ocean-inspired colors like turquoise, coral, pink, yellow, and green.
Step 3: Add Fingerprints
Dip fingertips into washable paint and press fingerprints all over the seahorse body.
Layering different paint colors creates a fun textured effect and makes the seahorse extra vibrant. We used several shades of pink, orange, blue, and silver to give the craft a colorful underwater look.
Let the paint dry completely before moving on.
Step 4: Glue On The Googly Eye
Attach a googly eye near the seahorse’s head using glue.
This simple step instantly brings the seahorse to life and makes the craft even more playful.
Step 5: Decorate The Background
Use fingerprints, dot markers, or paint to create ocean bubbles around the seahorse.
Kids can also draw seaweed, fish, waves, or other underwater details to make their ocean scene unique.
