Supplies
To make your own submarine photo craft, here’s everything you’ll need to get started:
- Submarine Template – You can download and print the template at the bottom of this post. It includes the submarine design and bubble letters for kids to spell their name. Print on white cardstock paper for best results!
- Coloring Tools – Markers, crayons, colored pencils, or even watercolor paints work great for decorating the submarine. Let kids get creative with bright, bold colors!
- Child’s Photo – A small, printed photo of each child’s face is used for the window of the submarine. A 3×3 inch size usually fits best, but you can resize as needed.
- Scissors & Glue – Kids will need scissors to cut out the pieces of the craft. A glue stick or school glue will work to attach the photo and letters.
- Black Marker or Sharpie – A bold black marker is perfect for outlining the edges or adding extra details to make the submarine really pop.
- Laminating sheets (optional) – if you want to preserve the finished submarines as long-lasting keepsakes!
How to Make the Submarine Photo Craft
Follow these simple steps to create your own colorful and personalized submarine keepsake:
- Print the Submarine Template
Download and print the submarine craft template (available at the bottom of this post). You can use regular printer paper, but cardstock is even better if you want a sturdier finished craft. - Color the Submarine
Use your favorite coloring tools—markers, crayons, or colored pencils—to decorate the submarine however you like! Bright, bold colors make the craft pop, but there’s no wrong way to color your sub. - Cut Out the Pieces
Carefully cut out the submarine, the number of bubble letters you’ll need for the child’s name, and the large circle template included on the page. This circle will help you size your photo perfectly. - Cut Your Photo to Size
Use the large circle you just cut out as a guide to trace around the child’s photo. Then cut along the traced line so the picture fits nicely in the submarine’s window. - Glue the Photo in Place
Add a small amount of glue to the back of the photo and press it into the circular window of the submarine. Make sure it’s centered and secure. - Write the Name on the Bubbles
Using a black marker or Sharpie, write one letter of the child’s name in each bubble circle. Try to keep the letters nice and bold so they’re easy to read. - Attach the Name to the Submarine
Line up the name bubbles under the submarine and use glue to stick them in place. You can follow the curve of the submarine or keep them in a straight line—it’s up to you!
And that’s it! You’ve created an adorable, personalized submarine photo craft that makes a fun keepsake and a perfect addition to classroom walls, bulletin boards, or even your fridge at home.
