What is skip counting?
Skip counting is a learning strategy that involves counting by a specific number instead of counting chronologically from 1 to 10.
For example, if you want to skip count by 5, then you count by intervals of 5. In other words, the next number you go to is 10 (which equals 5 two times) followed by 15 (which equals 5 three times).
So, skip counting by 5s looks like this: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25…
and, skip counting by 3s would look like: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15…
while, skip counting by 9 would look like: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45…
What is forward skip counting?
Forward skip counting is usually used when counting forward in a pattern. For example, if someone asks you to count by 5s starting at 12, then you would say: 12, 17, 22, 27, 32…
What is backward skip counting?
Backward skip counting is usually used when counting backwards in a pattern. This type of skip counting can sometimes be called back-skipping or reverse skip-counting. For example, if someone asks you to count by 5s backwards from 22, then your answer would look like: 22, 18, 15, 10…
