How to Make a Torn Paper Acorn Craft

Step 1: Print the Acorn Template
Begin by printing out the free acorn craft template located at the bottom of this blog post. We recommend using high quality white cardstock for sturdier results.

Step 2: Cut Out the Acorn Shape
Carefully cut along the outer edge of the acorn template. Younger children may need adult help with this step. Set the cut-out acorn aside on a clean, flat surface.

Step 3: Tear the Construction Paper
Pick your favorite fall-themed colors of construction paper—brown, white, red, yellow, or orange—and tear them into small pieces. This is a great way for kids to practice fine motor skills while adding texture to their craft.

Step 4: Fill in the Acorn with Torn Paper
Use a glue stick to fill in the acorn with your torn paper pieces. Use darker colors (like brown) for the acorn cap and lighter colors (like cream or tan) for the bottom section. Encourage kids to overlap pieces and cover the entire area.

Step 5: Add the Face
Cut out the eyes and two cheek circles from the template. Use a pink marker to color the cheeks before gluing them in place. Then, glue the eyes and cheeks onto the acorn’s face.

Step 6: Draw a Smile or Smirk
Using a black marker or Sharpie, draw a fun smile, smirk, or silly expression to give your acorn a little personality!

Step 7: Let It Dry
Allow the glue to dry completely before handling or displaying the craft.

Step 8: Show Off Your Fall Craft
Display your torn paper acorn craft on a bulletin board, hang it on the fridge, or string several together to make a festive fall garland! It’s the perfect fall craft for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and early elementary-aged kids.
