I love incorporating torn paper crafts into our activity lineup, especially during the back-to-school season.

Not only are they a fun and creative way to welcome fall, but they’re also fantastic for building fine motor skills.

This torn paper apple craft is one of my favorites—it’s low prep, mess-free, and perfect for both classroom and at-home crafting. It’s also a wonderful way to get kids involved in decorating their classroom in a fun fall theme!

With just a few simple supplies, children can tear, glue, and create their own unique apples to display on bulletin boards, walls, or windows, making the space feel festive and welcoming for a brand-new school year.

Instructions

Print the Apple Template
Start by printing a copy of the apple template on white cardstock. I recommend using Neenah White—it’s sturdy and holds up well to glue and layering.

Color the Leaf and Stem
Use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to color in the apple’s leaf and stem. Get creative or stick with classic brown and green tones.

Tear Construction Paper
Choose your favorite apple colors—red, green, or yellow—and tear the construction paper into small pieces. This tearing action is great for developing fine motor skills!

Glue the Torn Paper
Apply glue generously to the apple shape. Starting at the outer edges and working your way in, stick the torn paper pieces all over the apple until it’s fully covered.

Add the Eyes
Carefully cut out the eyes using scissors. Then, glue them onto your torn paper apple for a fun, expressive touch.

Draw a Face
Use a black marker to draw a smile, smirk, or even a silly expression to bring your apple to life.

Cut Out the Apple
Once everything is dry, use scissors to cut out your finished torn paper apple craft. It’s now ready to display!
