Torn Paper Ghost Craft

This torn paper ghost craft was such a hit with my craft group! The kids had a blast ripping and gluing pieces of paper to create their very own friendly Halloween ghosts.

One of the best parts was letting them choose any background color they wanted—some went classic with black or orange, while others got creative with purple, green, and even rainbow!

Each torn paper ghost craft turned out totally unique, and the kids were so proud of their spooky (but not scary!) masterpieces.

Torn paper crafts like this one are a perfect low-prep Halloween activity that encourage creativity and fine motor skills for kids in preschool, kindergarten and the early elementary grades.

Supplies

  • Printable Ghost Template – get the pdf at the bottom of this blog post
  • Cardstock – 1 sheet of colored cardstock for the ghost shape and 1 sheet of white cardstock for the eyes and mouth
  • White Construction Paper – for tearing into small pieces to create the ghost’s body
  • Glue – to attach the torn paper pieces to the ghost and secure it to the background
  • Scissors – to cut out the ghost’s eyes and mouth

Instructions

Step 1: Print the ghost template. Print the ghost shape on your choice of colored cardstock and the eyes and mouth on white cardstock.

Step 2: Tear the white construction paper into small pieces. These will be used to give your ghost a fun, textured look.

Step 3: Apply glue over the entire ghost shape. Then, press the torn white paper pieces onto the glue, covering the ghost completely.

Step 4: Cut out the ghost’s eyes and mouth. Use a small amount of glue to attach them to your torn paper ghost.

Step 5: Allow the craft to dry completely before displaying your spooky (but sweet!) Halloween ghost.
