Instructions
Step 1: Print a copy of our DIY Christmas stocking template. The template comes with 4 Christmas stocking shapes that kids can use to make this cute Christmas craft.
Make sure to print enough blank Christmas stockings to use for the back side of the stocking.
Step 2: Have children color in their own stockings using their choice of pencil crayons, wax crayons or markers then cut them out.
Kiddos should write their name on the top of the stocking.
They can also decorate their stocking outline in fun ways using different materials like pom poms, glitter glue, glitter, tissue paper etc. This is optional but a great idea for kids who love crafting with mixed media.
Step 3: Have children punch holes in the front and back part of their Christmas stocking crafts using a single hole punch.
They can start at the toe of the stocking and punch each black circle on the edge of the stocking until they’ve made their way around.
Don’t forget to punch holes of both sides of your stocking so you can weave yarn through the holes in the last step.
Step 4: Double up your stocking pieces by putting the front of the stocking on top of the back of the stocking.
Starting in the upper left corner of the printable stocking have kiddos start lacing yarn from one hole to the next hole until they’ve made their way around the outer edges of the stocking.
If you are crafting with especially young children you may have to help them out with this step.
Step 5: Display your stocking!
Tip* If you’re using yarn or rope the string may fray making the lacing part of this activity a challenge. Wrap a small piece of tape around the tip of the yarn to make lacing it through the holes easier.
