Directions

Start by making the handprints for the fire. To do this, trace your child’s hand on yellow construction paper using a pencil.

To get a good outline, make sure the fingers are spread out naturally before tracing.

Repeat the tracing process on red and orange construction paper. You should have a handprint in each color.

Using scissors, have children carefully cut out their handprints.

If you’re crafting with especially young children they made need a little help with this step.

When you’re done, you should have three handprints: yellow, orange and red.

Take the brown construction paper and draw two log shapes.

Each log should be about 1-1.5 inches wide and around 5-6 inches long.

You can add some texture lines or patterns to make the logs look more realistic using child-safe markers. Cut out your two log shapes with scissors.

To create the campfire base, lay a white piece of cardstock on your work surface.

Place the two brown logs on the white card stock in a crisscross pattern, like an ‘X.’

Try to position them so the spot where they cross is a little below the center of the paper. This way, you’ll have plenty of space above for the handprint flames.

Use glue to attach the brown logs to the white card stock. Apply glue to the back of each log and press them firmly onto the paper in the crisscross pattern. Allow a moment for the glue to set.

Start attaching the handprint flames. First, glue on the red handprint.

Apply glue to the back and place it on top of the crisscrossed logs, slightly angled so that the fingers point upwards, resembling flames.

Next, take the yellow handprint, apply glue to the back, and place it next to the red handprint, again with the fingers pointing upwards.

Finally, take the orange handprint, apply glue to the back, and place it on top of the yellow and red handprints in the middle, ensuring it overlaps slightly.

Press down gently on each handprint to ensure they are securely glued to the card stock.

Allow the glue to dry completely before displaying or handling your campfire handprint craft.
