Shamrock Lacing Craft
This shamrock lacing craft was so much fun to make!
With our free template, some cardstock, and brightly colored yarn, kids in preschool, kindergarten, and early primary grades can create a vibrant rainbow shamrock craft for St. Patrick’s Day.
Lacing crafts like this are a fantastic way to build fine motor skills as little hands thread and knot each strand of yarn.

Supplies
Here are the supplies you’ll need to make this shamrock lacing craft.
- Free Shamrock Template – Grab your printable at the bottom of this post!
- Green Cardstock – We used 65lb AstroDesigns cardstock in green for a bold, festive look.
- Scissors – For cutting out your shamrock shape.
- Single Hole Punch – Perfect for making even, easy-to-thread holes.
- Colorful Yarn or Embroidery Floss – Pick 8 vibrant colors, each about 12 inches long, to make your shamrock pop!
Instructions
Print a copy of our shamrock template on green cardstock paper. We used 65lb AstroDesigns cardstock to print our craft.
Using scissors cut out the shamrock from the template.
Gently poke a hole in the center of the heart inside your shamrock. Then, grab your scissors and carefully cut along the outline to remove the heart shape. Take your time—slow and steady makes the best cuts!
Grab your single hole punch and start punching holes all around the heart shape! Use the handy guide dots on the template to keep your holes evenly spaced—easy peasy!
Time to start threading! Take your colorful yarn and thread it through one of the holes, then stretch it across to a hole on the opposite side of the heart. Keep going, crisscrossing each string of yarn to create a fun, web-like design.
To keep your thread in place, tie a small knot on the back of your shamrock.
Repeat this process with each piece of yarn until all the holes are filled and your heart is beautifully woven with color! 🌈✨
