Torn Paper Groundhog Craft
Groundhog Day is right around the corner, so we created this adorable torn paper groundhog craft to add to our growing collection of torn paper crafts for preschool and elementary-aged kids.
This simple, low-prep activity is a great way for young crafters to develop fine motor skills and express their creativity as they rip and assemble pieces of torn paper to form a charming groundhog.
Using basic supplies you likely already have at home, children can enjoy making their own torn paper groundhog craft in celebration of Groundhog Day!
Supplies
- Groundhog template – you can download a copy of the template you’ll need at the bottom of this post.
- Cardstock paper – we used green cardstock but any color will do.
- Construction paper in different shades of brown
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Washable markers in brown and black
Instructions
Print a copy of the groundhog template on your choice of colored cardstock. To download the template you’ll have to scroll to the very bottom of this blog post.
Tear dark brown paper into small pieces. Using a small amount of glue stick the pieces to the groundhog’s burrow.
Tear your lighter brown paper into small pieces. Using a small amount of glue, stick the pieces of town paper all over the groundhog’s body and head.
Cut out the groundhog’s eyes and glue them to its face.
Use a brown marker to color the groundhog’s face and a black marker for its nose. Cut them out, then apply a small amount of glue to attach them to the groundhog’s head below the eyes.
Let your torn paper groundhog craft dry completely before displaying it.
