Snowflake Suncatcher Craft
We love creating diy suncatchers.
They’re such a fun little projects for children of all ages.
They’re an easy craft for kids that are not only so much fun to make but they work on really great things like fine motor skills!
Today, we’re excited to add this simple paper snowflake craft to our growing collection of suncatcher crafts for kids.
A snowflake shape is attached to sticky piece of contact paper that children decorate with colorful squares of tissue paper to create a beautiful stained glass snowflake.
The best part? Children will proudly want to display their snowflake crafts in the window so they can reflect winter sunlight!
Craft Supplies
- Construction paper in a variety of different colors. You can use green, yellow, purple, blue, orange, pink, red or black construction paper.
- Scissors
- Pencil or marker
- Tissue paper in a variety of different colors – you’ll need to cut this into small squares or triangles
- Contact paper
- Self-adhesive gems (optional)
- Glue dots or double-sided tape for displaying your snowflake suncatcher craft
Instructions
Step 1: Create your snowflake design by following the series of visual instructions we’ve included above.
This step can be a little challenging for younger children so plan to give young kiddos some help when they are creating their snowflake templates.
Step 2: Make tissue paper pieces by cutting tissue paper in your choice of colors into small pieces.
We cut our pieces of tissue paper into squares and triangles to give our finished Snowflake suncatcher craft some visual interest.
Step 3: Using tape stick your contact paper down on your work surface with the sticky side facing up.
Place your snowflake template on the contact paper.
Use your fingers to smooth down all edges of the construction paper snowflake template.
We used a couple of pieces of painters tape to keep the contact paper from moving while we worked.
Step 4: Start sticking small pieces of tissue paper to the sticky surface of the contact paper inside the snowflake until all the sticky parts are covered.
You do not need to cover the outside of the snowflake since that excess strip will get cut off.
Step 5: Trim off the excess contact paper on the outside of your snowflake.
You may have to help especially young children complete this step.
We found it was easier to trim off the excess strip around the snowflake by putting the sticky side face down.
Decorate your snowflake suncatcher craft with self-adhesive gems to make it glitter in winter sunlight!
Step 6: Proudly display your snowflake suncatcher craft in a window by putting a glue dot or piece of double-sided tape on the top of the suncatcher.
