Easy Newspaper Owl Craft

We love to craft with old newspaper! It’s such a low cost and fun way to encourage kids to be creative. And, today we’re so excited to add this newspaper owl craft to our growing collection of recycled newspaper activities.

This cute newspaper owl craft for kids is a great way to encourage creativity while working on fine motor skills. By tearing and gluing pieces of newspaper, children are developing fine motor skills and enhancing hand-eye coordination.

Supplies

  • Owl template – to snag a copy of the template you’ll need to make this newspaper owl craft scroll to the very bottom of this post.
  • Cardstock paper – we highly recommend printing the template on 110 lbs cardstock for best results.
  • Construction paper – grey/brown, orange and yellow
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Googly eyes
  • Old newspaper

Instructions

NEWSPAPER OWL CRAFT

Print a copy of our printable owl template on high quality cardstock paper. Using scissors cut out all parts of the owl template.

Rip some old newspaper into small pieces. Apply glue and attach the torn newspaper all over the owl’s face. It’s perfectly fine if the newspaper extends beyond the edges of the template.

Use scissors to trim any excess newspaper that extends beyond the edges of the owl template. If you’re crafting with very young children, you may need to assist them with this step.

Tip: Flip the owl’s face over and trim from the back to make it easier to cut along the edges of the template.

Trace the owl’s head on brown or grey construction paper, the eyes on yellow paper and the beak on orange paper. Then, carefully cut out each of the pieces.

Using a small amount of glue, glue the owl’s face to the owl’s head.

Using a little glue, stick owl’s eyes onto the face.

Attach your self-adhesive googly eyes to the center of the owl’s face.

Let your newspaper owl craft dry completely before playing with it or displaying it.
