Easy Torn Newspaper Penguin Craft

We love crafting with old newspaper. It’s such a fun and inexpensive crafting material that’s easy to work with for kids.

So, we’re very excited to be adding this adorable newspaper penguin craft to our growing collection of torn newspaper activities for kids.

This cute penguin craft idea uses our free printable penguin template, glue, construction paper and old newspapers to create a fun penguin kids of all ages will proudly want to show off.

Supplies

Penguin template – the free printable template you’ll need to make this newspaper penguin craft can be found at the very bottom of this post.
Cardstock – we highly recommend printing the template in 110lbs cardstock paper for optimal results.
Card stock or construction paper – you’ll need black and orange
Gluestick
Old newspaper
Pencil
Googly eyes
Black marker or sharpie

Instructions

Print a copy of our free printable penguin template on high quality cardstock. Cut out the penguins body, stomach/head, beak and feet.

Tear up a few sheets of old newspaper into little pieces. Glue the pieces all over the stomach/head of the penguin. Don’t worry if the pieces of newspaper overlap your template.

Using scissors trim off the excess newspaper that overhangs the edges of the penguin template. If you are crafting with especially young children you may have to help them complete this step.

*Tip: flip your penguin’s belly over and trim it upside down so you can trim around the template with your scissors.

Trace the penguins body on black construction paper and the beak and feat on orange paper. Cut out all the pieces.

Glue the penguin’s stomach/head to the penguin’s body.

Glue on the penguin’s beak and feet.

Attach your self-adhesive googly eyes to the penguin’s face.

Let your penguin dry completely before displaying or playing with it.
