Torn Paper Penguin Craft

We love making newspaper crafts. And, this torn paper penguin craft is a great example of a fun and relatively simple craft that kids of all ages can make.

By using our free printable template (more on how to download it below), cardstock paper, old newspaper and glue – kids can work on their fine motor skills while creating an adorable penguin craft.

Supplies

Penguin template – you can download a copy of the free template you’ll need to make this torn paper penguin craft at the very bottom of this blog post
Cardstock in blue and white
Black and white construction paper
Orange washable marker
Scissors
Glue stick

Instructions

Print a copy of our free penguin template on cardstock. Print the first page (penguin winter scene) on blue cardstock and the second page (penguin body parts) on white card stock.

Using scissors, cut out the penguins body parts including the body, beak eyes and feet. Color in the beak and feet using an orange marker.

Tear up some old newspaper into small squares. Using glue, stick the pieces of torn newspaper all over the penguin’s body. Don’t worry if the newspaper overlaps the edges of the template. We’ll trim that off in the next step.

Flip the penguin’s body over and trim away the excess newspaper that over hangs the template. If you are crafting with really small children you may have to help them with this step.

Tear up black construction paper into small pieces. Using glue, stick the pieces of torn black paper all over the blue penguin template.

Tear up white construction paper into small pieces. Using glue, stick the pieces of torn white paper all over the bottom of the blue template where the penguin would be standing on snow.

Glue the penguins body to the blue penguin template using glue.

Using a small amount of glue stick the penguins feet onto the bottom of its body.

Using a small amount of glue, stick the penguins eyes to its face.

Using a small amount of glue, stick the penguins beak to its face under the eyes.

Let your torn paper penguin craft dry completely before displaying or playing with it.
